Breaking Bad
A chemistry teacher facing a terminal diagnosis begins manufacturing methamphetamine and discovers an appetite he did not know he had.
Selected as the clearest case of a series built around a single, deliberate transformation — planned, then carried out.
Walter White is a mild Albuquerque chemistry teacher with a family, a second job and a cancer diagnosis. To secure their future he partners with a former student, Jesse Pinkman, and starts cooking methamphetamine of unusual purity. Vince Gilligan's stated aim was to turn a protagonist into an antagonist over five seasons, and he does it with patience and visual discipline. The series is less about the drug trade than about pride, and the stories a man tells to justify it.

Curated adjacencies
03 / 03 admittedEvery grouping names one axis of similarity — and the axes we refused. Pairings that could not be defended were withheld rather than filled in.
Similar in moral pressure and psychological intensity
Grouped where the viewer is placed under obligation rather than suspense. Intensity without spectacle.
Similar in narrative weight and withheld structure
Architecture as argument — information sequenced, denied, and left unresolved on principle.
A more demanding continuation
A deliberate step up in what the film asks: slower, more severe, and unwilling to meet you halfway.
