Why we selected it
Included as a patient, unfashionable procedural that cares more about the cost of obsession than the solution.
Synopsis
In 1990, Kern County deputy Joe Deacon is sent to Los Angeles on a routine errand and is drawn back into the kind of case that once undid him. He partners, uneasily, with the department's ascendant detective, Jim Baxter, as their attention narrows on a strange, unsettling repairman. John Lee Hancock wrote the script decades earlier, and the film keeps that older, deliberate rhythm: night drives, motel rooms and an investigation more concerned with the investigators than the crime.
